Here is a reply I posted on an other Tascam forum. Pincarto I would check what kind of earthing system you have in Australia:-
Not all earthing systems are the same In the UK we use the PME system which is fine as long as you have not an external earth that you have put in yourself in a outhouse/Garage or maybe an external earth for RF if you are a Radio Amateur or listener or something. If you have be careful there could be potential difference if an appliance goes wrong in your house or other houses nearby as they probably share the same PME earthing system and if you happen to touch a radiator or pipe when this happens (unlikely but worth pointing out) then there could be a lethal voltage between you and the dp24 or any other equipment if you have not installed a separate earth then using the house mains earth is fine to use.
All power points in Australia have an earth pin.
The earth from the power point goes back to the fuse box / switchboard.
In the fuse box / switchboard there is a MEN link (Main Earth Neutral link) The earth from the MEN is connected to an earth point of the building, usually a water pipe going underground. (I have in the past put down an earth stake at one studio due to a poor earth, but I still connected it to the original water pipe as well).
The Dp-24 has an AC adapter that doesn't have a ground. However, the DP-24 unit has a grounding screw terminal that you can wire to a ground if needed (in the US, you should be able to use the faceplate mounting screw in you wall outlet as a ground (if the screw is metal and the outlet is installed properly). I used it once when recording a not so good guitar, and it was helpful.
I would have thought that the grounding was to eliminate a audio ground loop, the easy way to ground the unit would be to connect a wire from the ground connection of the Dp-24 to another item of gear that has a mains earth, for example the monitor amp or the active monitors if that is what you have. The wire can be connected to any chassis screw, check that there is an earth connection by unplugging the earthed item of gear and using a multi meter check there is a connection between the earth pin of the power lead (to that gear) to the earth connection of the Dp-24.
