Groovin in Am

EL34

Clown car chauffeur
I met this guy, Jim Hickey, over at Mixcraftlive.com who is a guitar and Bass teacher and he sells jam tunes and other items on his web site.
He posted a Jam in Am on MixcraftLive.com that had a cool groove and so I wrote a tune based on his Jam in Am.

Here's Jim's page at Mixcraft live

And here's his web site.

Check out the Jam tune I recorded.
It was just a fun little diddy I did yesterday afternoon during a 3 day rain fest we were having.
I am playing guitar over the top of Jim's drum and Bass Jam track.

You can download the .mp3 with the link below or you can play it without downloading it on this page.

That sounds great. What was the output end of the chain? (E.g. what amp & mic? or was it DI/preamp?)

I love jammin over other peoples tracks--it pushes me to explore and play differently than I might over my own stuff.

I stayed and checked out your site for a while too. Very cool. I love to get a look into other folk's worlds.

Off topic, but how tough was it to build that AB763? I'm guessing your much more elctronically inclined & experience than I, but I've really been considering that as a way of getting some vintage Fender tone at a better price...

Hey thanks Mr. Strat,
The chain is Guitar into tube stereo preamp -> sound card line in -> Gutar Rig 3 is used to process all the guitar sounds -> recorded and mixed in Mixcraft 4

No mics were harmed.

Building amps from scratch cost more than buying an amp, but you can get way better tone from hand wired stuff as opposed to PC board construction.
Check out my amp forum link on my site for way more info than i can give here.

Wow, you always impress me!

I have a little ditty in here that you can solo over too. I started a Rumble solo contest. It'll definitely test you. It's a funky reggae jam I did on my yamaha keyboard...

Thanks all, Just getting back from dining out, now going in to watch movies.
I'll get with you all tommorow.

see ya
appreciate the feedback

That is a cool funky tune Doug! Love your playin...but those tones you got kicks ass!!

I too love playing along with other's music. It really does enhance one's musical layers and refreshes the stagnate waters of the same ol' same ol'...:)

Hello again miss True.
So glad you enjoyed the Jam tune.

It was fast and painless not having to create the drums and bass myself. :D
It also can knock you out of a slump when you hear a new groove, beat, etc.

I heard this groove and had the melodies worked out in about 30 minutes.
It was lots of fun and didn't eat up a bunch of time.

Hey Rokket, I listened to the Jimmy Buffet rumble thing.
I have to surrender. :o
I have no idea what to play over that.

:D:D:D:D

I offered up a suggestion to WhiteStrat. If he doesn't do it, I bet you could...

Oh, and I listened again, just because... ;)

Great playing! I've never played with guitar rig 3, but that sounds really good. The few times I've played over other people's tracks it was so nice like you're saying -- just sit down, play, and you're pretty much done.

If I can distract the wife, I'm going for Rokket's ditty this weekend -- I plan to pull out a Charvel Surfcaster, a lap steel, or both.

BTW - I've posted an early draft here of my response to your Hand of Shiva song - the thread is bouncing around still.

This fellow makes money for jam?
Nice playing - I can't do this sort of stuff without a lot of work the only thing I can extemporise is a glib reply.

Hey, I don't remember if I posted back here after I remixed Hand of Shiva and added a new center section.

Rather than download it, you can play the most recent version on this page.
And a bunch of others tunes also if you want.

I'll go look for that other post.

Thanks again all for the comments.

You didn't update, but I'm glad you mentioned it -- I like the new center section! (and I never asked what the deep growly sound is, either) Mine's called Tamerlane, and you better act fast -- it's headed down for the nether pages quickly like most of my stuff does :D

It's a Tanpura.
I found a loop on the web somewhere.
I changed the pitch to suit the key of my tune.
I'll go and check out your tune.
see ya

Nice guitar playing. I like it. Sounded kinda "porno-ish" at the beginning, but that's a cool thing in my opinion. ;)

Great work. :D

Yeah, that's ok with me. :)

Needs more fuzz tone and a cheesy wah effect to really get that old school porn effect I am after.
