gretsch guitars??

so, i was at guitar center yesterday to check out the gretsch guitars. i am totally into them cause i have been listening to Eddie Cochran non stop. i was really enjoying it, until i saw the "made in japan" sticker on the back. does anybody know what the deal is with this? a japan made 6128 duo-jet for $1500. not that i have anything against japanese people. i just find that that is really expensive for a non american made guitar. what you all think?
 
I used to have a '62 Country Gentleman "Chet Atkins". It was selling that guitar that made me vow to NEVER sell another one.
 
I am totally in love with the Gretch BST. It feels so goddamn awesome, I got it pretty cheap, and ummmm, I have nothing else to say hehehe
 
Grestch still makes very good guitars......even if the sticker says made in Japan. If this was still 1962, made in japan would mean "cheap" but not any more. The Japanese have a higher regard for Vintage instruments and craftsmanship than we do sometimes......been to a guitar show lately? There are usualy a couple of booths that are rented by Japanese guitar shops for the sole purpose of buying Vintage stuff to sell back home. If the Guitar has Grestch on the headstock, you should be ok. If is says Fender, Epiphone, or Gibson these days, buyer beware. The American makers are not building quality stuff any more unless it's a custom shop piece......We can all thank Clinton, low worker's salaries south of the border, N.A.F.T.A. and Korea for that.
 
I've been looking at some Gretsch guitars from Indonesia in Guitar Center lately and have been stunned by how beautiful they are, especially the more expensive "Traditional Series" acoustics.

If I were more of a guitarist I'd buy one. I mean, far
as guitars go, they are among the best. And you're
right Daddy-O- the Japanese have a REVERENCE
for vintage guitars, and their craftsmanship is a
helava lot better than even ours any more. Even
Custom Shop and artist line guitars aren't quite
that good. Regebro- that is a gorgeous orange
semi. And Track Rat- I saw a '62 here recently and
it didn't stick around very long.

So Daddy-O, why are we blaming Clinton, low salaries NAFTA and the Koreans for US made guitars being crap?

Are they crap?

I"ve played some great Strats, Tele's and Les Pauls, a fabulous PRS and a really nice National in the last few weeks.

Were they expensive - Yep! But you can thank the unions for that, not the Koreans.

Track rat, I still have my '63 CACG, but I confess to putting it up for sale when the prices started to climb.
The consensus is that Made In Japan is not the kiss of death: in fact I have looked at MIJ Gretsches and have concluded (lessee, if I sell a quart of blood a week, and sell my wife's car) that I would LOVE to have a single cut open fhole CACG, made in Nippon or wherever. And look at what's called the replacement cost: could anybody in the US build the '63 I have and sell it for anything a non-rockstar could afford? Probably not. Be grateful they are building killer gear that you can buy! What would it be like if we were all fighting to the death to get that last remaining cool Les Paul? (I have a goldtop, thanks.)
 
The new Japanese Gretsch's are better guitars than the older and vintage MADE IN USA Gretsch's. Watch out for the lower end Korean Gretsch's. Not so good.
