Gretsch Drums

I've used Mapex for about 5 years now,and I like them,but I really want to change. I looked in Gretsch. Anyone use them? or can give me a better understanding of them.
 
I've got a cheap Gretsch Nighthawk kit, and I think it sounds great.

If you like Mapex, why do you wanna change?

I just wanna change. Something just hit me afew days ago.
 
I picked Gretsch for my first kit (Blackhawk EX fusion), probably more for the classic image and look, but I love the sound, too. Their Renown and Custom drumkits are top notch.
 
I have the Gretsch Catalina 5 Piece Birch set. I have played guitar for close to 12 years now, and just started getting into percussion. In any event, I can't give you an expert opinion because I am just a novice, however, I am happy with them. They came highly recommended from a friend that plays and teaches so I just went out and bought them.

Forget what I just said, I am no help. I do not know SH#$ about drums. Hopefully someone else will post.
 
I have played gretsch drums for the past decade or so. My kit is an older maple but the catalina maple and birch kits are excellent. I studied music in school and everybody had eith gretsch, yamaha recording customs and DW. To me the yamahas have their sound and the gretsch is like playing a DW with cast hoops and a little bit of the gretsch sound built in.

They are great drums. I have known many professional drummers who have one for their home drumkit and one for the road. For the price the Catalina is hard to beat. I have a friend with the birch and it plays and records really really well.
 
I don't know what kind of stuff you're into... but I'm madly in love with the Catalina Club 4-piece. I don't have one, but whenever I'm in a shop that does, I'm on it. As it is I've got a 7-piece Tama kit, but my next kit is going to be either the Catalina Club or a Yamaha jazz kit.
 
i have a catalina club kit, and am quite happy with it. it's not an expensive sounding kit, but for the price, they're pretty much as good as you can possibly do. for how small and compact they are, they project well. as in most drum kits, it's all about how well you can tune it.
