Lol. I am a neanderthal pounder, but I think my grip is pretty good for never having any kind of formal training. I barely hold on with my thumb and forefinger and get my power from strong wrists and fingers from lots of masturbation.

Is that cardboard underneath those drums? Most of us use some sort of carpet. It helps keep stands and things from slowly creeping or sliding away from you while you play.

During live shows, my band mates (or the occasional crazed fan) would sometimes spill a beer on my drum rug. It got ugly after a few years.

I finally wised up and got myself one of those large office door mats with the soft rubber backing and border. The carpet fibers are molded right into the rubber so the mud, snow, and water won't hurt them. In fact I can hose it off and hang it up to dry. I think it is about 4x6 or 5x7 ft.

It works like a champ and is almost indestructible.

 no kidding. is he actually playing here, or is this a pose? does he use his wrists at all or is it it "all in the forearm?"

it seems hard to believe that anyone could play accurately at all holding sticks like savages pounding their forks impatiently on the table. :D

Its just how he had it when the picture was took. :)

Carpel Tunnel set in yet. How about blindness ? :)

Calm down.

This is why drummers seldom like to share kits with other bands - everyone likes things set up their own way.

And why all drummers never want to use Gerg's sticks! :D

I use AHeads. They don't absorb the funk. :D

I think I saw Gerg using the Louisville Slugger sticks in Arizona.....:D

I have a Lars set of Aheads and while I like the weight and feel, I think wooden sticks sound better on the cymbals. Im about ready to go and get me a few pairs of descent wooden sticks and send the Aheads to my son. He took his with him when he left and I was use to them, so I bought a pair. But after trying some good wooden sticks, I like the sound better.

You need to hunt through the AHeads and find what works best. To me, none of the signature series are worth a shit. The plain old 2B LT are just right for me. They last forever, feel good, whack with authority, and don't leave shavings everywhere. I'll never buy wood sticks again.

I agree with the shavings part. Its like a sawdust factory. Next time I head over to GC or Sam Ash, I'll try a pair.

Nothing sucks quite like spending 8 bucks on a new set of "perfectly matched" wood sticks and then have one break before the first song is done.

Pro-Mark, Vic Firth, Vater...fuck em all.

I may have to give these AHeads a try. I've been saving my broken sticks over the years and I have enough to build a chair. Gonna donate 'em to an artist one of these days.

I agree with the fellow who said to angle the drums to facilitate rim shots.

It opens up a whole new library of dynamics and sound from your kit. My
sticks look like a beaver had a field day about mid shaft from all the rim
shots I play.

When I'm live, it's almost a given that I'm hitting the snare and rim on every
hit. I love the sound, crack and overtone.

The same angle also allows for more power to transfer from the stick,
especially on the toms. If you have too much angle, the stick tends to
skip off, and the sound is weak.

Think of a hammer, or a punch hitting a surface: the more square you are
to the target, the better the transfer of energy.

Makes since. I hope to adjust them all today. Plus I need to clean up the cymbals. I'll post some new pics once I find what I like.
