Well I figured I would join in on the fun. I would really like to know what I can do to make it better. I went out and spent $100 I didn't really have to get another computer working so that I could do this. My laptop wouldn't play that many files, but that is what it is worth to me to learn how to mix better. So please anyone with any thoughts, let me know how I can improve.

sounds like you don't need a lot of advice man! that's a real nice mix.

IMO, 2nd best mix so far :laughings::p

only thing i'd offer is that the vox are a little dull or hidden to my ears..but then i'm on (good) headphones,

plus, you could easily argue that mine are too upfront so take it or leave it, but either way keep up the good work! :)

PI, Good mix, but I think your mastering process may have killed your intro. It sounds like the follow up guitar is getting caught in the compression. :spank:

Hmm... I did that on purpose. :o I wanted it to sound kind of like a rubberband, going out, then coming back. That was fader automation, not compression... I may have to re-think that, if you thought it was a mistake..

No that is cool... nothing wrong with having something a little unique in the mix.

I keep coming back and listening to my mix... I don't think it's that bad...:o

I'm not done yet.. The more I listen to mine, the more I notice things I want to change.. Hopefully I'll get around to it before Gergles decides to judge..

Okay... Here's an updated mix. I think I'm satisfied with this one.

PI WAV Updated
PI MP3 Updated

Got some pretty tough competition out there. I'm excited to see the results.

OK here's my effort

Great set of tracks btw. Even those double cheese midi tracks fitted in

Ok, just to make sure, having listened to this a bajillion times in the last week:

I gotta straighten my face; the smell of fried chicken's put my spine out of place.

Interesting mix Bulls. I'd say it's got more of a modern hard rock tone than most of the other mixes (which have been a bit more "straight").

Hey cool. Thanks for the compliments and boost of confidence man.

2nd best, huh. Heck, if I even make the cut I'm gonna be a very happy man. Nice mix by the way. Good luck to you and everyone here. I can tell there is some REAL talent on this board and I'm here to try to learn from it.

:D

What the heck, this seems like fun!

Here is a super-quickie. By super-quickie, I mean like 2 hours...and the first hour was importing files into my impossibly slow Roland. Impatience got the best of me and a good chunk of the tracks never even made it in. :D So...this is stripped down. A lot.

Anyway, this was perfect for me since I just got my hands on a new mixing board. I'm doing some sort of half ITB half OTB thing. My Roland can output 12 channels. So 10 of 'em go onto the analog board individually and the final two channels go onto the analog board as a mix of "the rest of 'em". That "rest of 'em" mix is done ITB on the Roland.

So this was a first test run before I get to mixing my current project. Maybe the guitars should have been higher and the tambourine is hilariously loud, but I'm happy for an hour of mixing.

Why did you mute the backing vocals???

Like I said, no patience. My recorder takes about 5 minutes to import a single track. It's a bit old... I had almost no free time to do this so I just sorta' plowed ahead.

Man, I put those lead vox too high. Might give this another go if the time presents itself.

hmm....i'm starting to think my mix is a bit bright!

at first i was thinkin the others were a little dull, but now that a lot of people have submitted, the odds are against me <scratches head>

sounding great btw fishmed!

Wow, got em all saved. This is a good turnout so far. I've got a lot of listening to do. Keep em coming. :)
