Great song or too Retro?

I don't think it's too retro, but I like retro a lot! Sounds like a good recording but I would say the main problem is timing. Sounds like there are major timing problems between the drums and guitars and bass (unless it was my computer screwing up!). Also, I think the vocal could be louder. Otherwise, a cool song.

Yes this song is a good example of a guitarist trying to play the drums (without a click track)..lol. However I like the song in itself. Thanks for the review.

A good listen

Royston,

I listened to Fly a Kite. I liked it. You are a good singer, reminds me of early Ian Hunter (I was a Mott the Hoople fan at one time.)

I appreciate what you said about guitar players trying to be drummers. I never could figure out how to work that pedal thingie behind the big drum in the middle.

I dig it. Is there bass in there ? I'm listening on laptop speakers and it's kinda hard to tell. If not, it needs some bass :)
I like the short verb or slap back you got on the main vocal.
Cool tune overall ... and not too retro. It's hard to comment on the mix ... but it sounds like a pretty good recording that's been mangled by a 28.8 lofi stream and crappy 1" speakers. ;)
Was this recorded live?

I played all the instruments myself except the bass guitar, the mp3 encoding must have messed up the bass on there. I used N-Track as the recorder, so it wasn't recorded live. I liked that slap back verb also, it seems to fit my style of singing. Thanks for the reviews guys.

Cool tune.My ears wanted to hear it at a much faster tempo.Almost a punk kinda
thing.Just a thought.

I downloaded the mp3, there's plenty of bass. I agree with my cousin, Beelezebubba, it would be great at a faster tempo.

Hi,

Nice singing. I did not dig the sound of the vocals though. It sounded kinda like a flange thing and a bit covered up.

I think the instruments could have been a bit less wet, and the vox could be a bit louder.

peace

Royston...

Nice tune... I dig the guitar tone... did you actually use the vox guitar shown on your MP3 site?

The drums and bass seem way to quiet in the mix (on my little speakers). Most of what I heard was guitar and vocals.

The vocals almost had an Elvis Costello type of feel imo. I thought it was pretty cool.

I agree with the others that this song might be cool kicked up a few beats per minute. Really let it rip.

Yes, I did use my wonderful Vox Mark III to record the guitar parts on this song, did you like the sound?

Royston,

Yes indeed... it was a very pleasant guitar sound. While I don't own a vox guitar, I am very much into using their amps... a Vox AC-15 top boost is my current amp of choice.

Although... I am working on getting myself an Orange.
