I'm looking for a high quality dual mic pre for arround the 2000 dollar range. It's between the MP-2NV and the Focusrite Red 8. Please share your experiences with these products and let me know if I'm neglecting another brand that can deliver a versatile, colored sound. Thanks.

I would go with the great river. The focusrite red stuff is good, but the great river is a totally different animal, probably in another class altogether.

Other brands you are neglecting that you really should check out:

Vintech 1272
Langevin Dual Vocal
Chandler EMI TG-2
AMI TAB-Funkenwerk V78
Old School Audio (OSA) or API
Sebatron
Seventh Circle Audio N72 or A12 (cool DIY if you are on a budget)

However, once you get into this range of gear there really is no better or worse stuff, it's all top quality and more a matter of taste. I'm sure you would be very happy with the great river.
