What would you recommend? What do you use? I just want to get some names of programs you'd recommend so I can research into them. No price range.

Thanks a lot!

PS: By mixing program I mean along the lines of Audacity, Reaper etc. That kind of software. But better =D

for old school, tape and patchbay guys who want routing and patchpoints up the wazoo, REAPER

For "at a glance" types, SAW for sure

Samplitude for the tech savvy, but with more "at a glance" type of functionality than reaper

throw midi in and it gets a bit wider

I'm starting to really come around to Cubase. But I've got a mixer that integrates with it so that helps.

Kind of sucks since I've got over $600 invested in Sonar but I can't stand the way Sonar routing works with ASIO drivers. In that regard I'll take Reaper. But you have to realize some of these more expensive programs come with a lot things like soft-synths etc.

I'm mostly mixing out of the box right now and don't need too many plugs at all so a fairly basic recording package works for me. So you need to figure out what your needs are and go from there. If I wasn't running the mixer I am now I would have a big problem putting down $500 on a package when Reaper is like...$40 or so? You can buy a damn nice mic with the savings.

I really like Protools for mixing. I have an LE system and it's a very clean and efficient environment for working and editing.

Cubase/Nuendo and Sonar's automation capabilities are much further developed at this point (could easily change in the next five minutes but...) than in reaper as well.

If you have a LOT of complex moves, nuendo's automation lanes system is pretty well thought out.

Nuendo v3 is Very good.... so much u can do with it just need to learn its capabilities.

I personally like protools for mixing but i hate it for tracking out vocals or anything else that isn't midi based. I find it tedious for alot of other things. I also hate how it uses paripherals because i already feel kind of stuck with it, even with my lowly m-powered.
