yeah kelly, it looks like the streaming audio doesn't work there. Well, at least the download works.
Thanks for the kind words. This song is a bit different for me, but I'm pretty excited about the possibilities that are availabale now that I'm not confined to 7 ping-ponged tracks on a 90 miniute Maxell. Thanks for the feedback.
Yeah I like Love and Rockets, although I'm not really a fan anymore, I used to be about 5-10 years ago. For their time they were doing some pretty innovative stuff, even more so when they were together as Bauhaus. When the group (-Peter Murphy and David J) broke up and Tones on Tail came out, I think that may have been some of the best music of the legacy. Ever listen to Dali's Car? That was Peter Murphy with the bass player from Japan. It's only available in the US as an import, but if you see it you may want to pick it up! The cover is a Maxfield Parish painting.
About the song: The song one of around eight new songs I've written for my new band the Blue Sunrays. This one is the first I've finished the rough draft for. Now I know some of you don't like to listen to rough drafts, but I would really appreciate it if you would here because I'm new to this caliber of recording, and would like to work out the bugs before I get the rest of the band involved. I'm looking for comments like Kelly's on the mix, the sound, the overall production, etc.
The drums can easily be fixed by taking off the small amount of reverb I put on em, Kelly on another I listen I agree you're right.
No sitar, just the strat. Although Satan had stopped by to jam on his fiddle, S8-N had no part in the scratching records, that was me~!
The "bling" was a glass vibes voice on the keyboard. Maybe I should try the windows bling, hmmmm............
The splash you heard is from a fishing show. Yeah I guess I could fade it... does kind of add to the chaos.
Vocals, guitar, drums out of sync in very beginning, yes without a doubt. I'll have to hit that next time around.
My favorite part is the oboe at the end.
One of my big problems is my lack of experience with compression. I used the most subtle compression I could apply over the final mixdown, but it still comes off sounding over compressed at the end of the song (I hate that).
I think I need top back and normalize some of those record scratches too, like the one just before the transition...
Thanks to anyone who takes a listen.
