Yes, it is time for me to again, poke my head into the realm of Newbs.
Forgive my ignorance but......

My question is this: Why the hell is a "panoramic" EQ so far superior to a "graphic" EQ when it comes to recording/production?

I've only had experience with "graphic" EQs (on PA systems) and am actually looking to buy a low-end dual channel EQ for recording/mixing/mastering.

Maybe a DBX or something.

All insight is appreciated.

Parametric EQ.

Because it can be tuned to a specific frequency, which can then be cut or boosted to taste, whereas the graphic EQ only has fixed bands.

Thanx MASTER for the correction. That does make some sense. Any rough guesstimates on price differential between the two types? Can one find a "budget" parametric EQ? Does your T.A.R.D.I.S Chamelian Circuit function properly?

Check out the Rane PE17. It's not exactly cheap, but it's a great unit.

That thing is SWEET! I'm looking, however, to spend maybe $200-$250.

Look for USED stuff... Orban makes several that'll hit that price point on the e-bay market.

Ashly...

DBX...

There's several that'll be reasonable...

Why don't you just use software plug-ins, such as diamond waves bundle.

You can buy a used Massenburg 8200 for less than the Diamond bundle...

Or 4 nice buss EQ's...

Or a rack filled with decent used EQ's...

You can also buy a decent sized mixer with plenty of EQ's.
