ok, this is for my brother...who plays bass...not I. but, it would be a birthday present...

He's been wanting a Jazz bass for a couple years now...

I was at Mars and they are having a clearance sale. I have a friend who works there who was able to tell me all the numbers on it...they have this American Deluxe Fender jazz Bass, that was selling for 1299, the mars cost on it was 850, and it is now being sold clearance for 799...

I had the guitar tech there check it over and he said it is in excellent shape...has been kept high up on the racks and stuff...

I played it a bit and really liked the sound....though I am not a bass player.

The only reservation I have really, is that it has a maple fretboard....now...that might not be a bad thing....

I am kind of wanting something with more "punch"...which i hear the maple fretboard is a little brighter..but very subtle.

So, I just don't know - they are keeping it in the back for me until they close today at 6 - 4 hours....should I buy it? The price is right....but...is this a great Jazz bass guitar...etc. Don't know much about "Deluxe" either...

need some buyers advice quick!, thanks

i didn't notice this....but, I was reading in the catalog just now and it said it had an "active 3 band eq" system.....

does this mean that the bass needs a battery?

If you dig it and the price is right ..BUY IT..Yes a battery is needed for active elec. prob. a 9 volt bat...They last a long time so you will not be changein' it very often.Good luck

ok, well..she's all mine.

it's a 1999 model...still had all of the plastic on and everything...

beautiful guitar...I really like it...

I think the active thing is going to go over well also.

very vintage looking...sexy. maple is nice..feels great, sounds great.

A note on the batteries lasting a long time in active pickups.....

Make sure you unplug the patch chord befor you run to the store with the guys. Maybe its just me, but if I leave it plugged in (even with all the amps, racks and lights off) it sucks the battery FAST.

i have a maple fender american strat guitar and i love it. it is definitely slicker than the rosewood strat that i had, but not as much as people led me to believe it would be.

oh yeah, and my conklin 5-string takes a 9-volt. as long as you unplug the cord when you are done playing/practicing/gigging you are fine, but if you are in the habit of leaving it plugged in overnight, you're going to need a 9-pack.

yup,

I unplug my active bass as soon as I'm finished for this very reason. Replaced the 9V battery last week after 13 months. And I play on a daily basis.
