gotta fatten up bass sound!!

I record elec. bass threw a telefunken V72a mic preamp with a little compression straight into my Alesis HD 24. I'm still not happy with the sound. Other recordings have that fat bottom sound. I mean its just a nice low end. Im not talking about rap/hip hop pounding bass,just a full sound. Any sugestions??? Thanks

have you tried something in the chain like a mixer, equalizer, pod, or an amp with balanced outputs? Theres quite a few inexpensive options out there.. I pretty much use a simple ART compressor/limiter and EQ on my bass. Occasionaly I`ll run it thru a Galien Kruger bass amp with balanced outputs, or Fender Bassman thru a mixer and into the sound card.
