Yeah it's a knew noodle that shows, slips then slinks off to know where.

U maid me wait 40 seconds for an out of tune guitar. The first note is a bad edit.

00:59 is flat. It gets worse.

Please re-tune.

When you say Pink Floyd. What do you mean?

Sounded more tangerine dream to me than floyd, there are some issues with the guitar in respect of pitching which I suspect are down to strings being pulled out of tune while holding neck positions. I think it would benefit from additional harmonic interest by having sub melodies which rhythmically harmonise with the theme melody. Artists who have produced notable tracks in this kind of genre know how to work repetition and how to add musical interest and tension to project an emotive aura around the track which makes listening to an arpeggio that otherwise would become stale, sound as though it is leading the track somewhere. It's a decent enough platform and you can build on it.

all the best

The intro is too "electronic" for Floyd though I can hear the Floyd influence and some elements are there.
THis type of music does put playing to the fore so any intonation issues become pretty obvious rather quickly.
Part of the Floyd ethos on this sort of track was the constant evolution of phrases and passages nboth up front and in the background.

Hi Tim, Firstly thanks for your comments. I think I should have replaced my strings for that recording session..my bad. This was my first foray into the techno rock genre. Any notable artists you care to name that I can listen to to get a feel for what you're saying Tim?
Cheers,
Lu

HI Ray! Thanks for your comments. I've got another song up called "Heaven" on soundcloud which I think is far better than this one. Care to have a bo-peep sometime? It is more Pink Floyd than this song tries to be IMO. https://soundcloud.com/pentultima/heaven-radio-mix-pentultima

You could listen to Tangerine Dream, Jarre, and for some quirkiness, talking heads, and of course look at the kind of arrangements floyd work with in respect of melodic and harmonic notation to get an idea of why a note/chord change generates feeling.

I think it's terrific that you are experimenting with this kind of stuff, I have since this morning started tinkering too, so will embarrass myself right here in due course.

Thanks Tim. I'm pretty familiar with Jarre and Floyd. Tangerine Dream not so.I'll give them a listen for sure. Talking Heads are mainly a vocal act so not sure where they fit in sorry. I've always loved David Gilmour's guitar work. I believe the Floyd style should continue onwards just like the blues has survived to today. I'd love to hear your floydish sounds sometime!

Cheers,
Lu :)

A fair amount of the Floyd back catalogue has lyrical content, clever lyrical content which is where quirky lyrics and fresh approaches come to play. Listening to bands who innovated in a broad spectrum of areas will help you lyrically, as I'm sure you'll get a bit hacked off doing just instrumentals. I'm currently tinkering with a track myself in the style we've been discussing so I'll be next up for being highlighted for my guitar wankery, which is a cross I'll bear gladly lol. You obviously put time and effort in, and I'm sure the experience of mixing the tracks and coming across things that you'll get benefit from going forwards will pay dividends.

enjoy

Tim
