Hey,

I just got this new computer with a ton of ram, big hardrive and a great soundcard (Sound Blaster Audigy). I looking for a great home recording program to download and use. I don't know shit about any thing regarding recording. I looking for a good program that is relatively user friendly to newbies with no music backround. If you have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

I started out with Pro Audio 9 from cakewalk. I upgraded to Sonar 2 XL by the same company. As far as any recommendation I would make, it would be to go to www.cakewalk.com or www.cakewalknet.com and check out what they have to offer.
There are several different packages availible for home recording.

Thanks a million for the help. I take it that cakewalk is free?

this is available.. Sonar_2.0_XL.exe

should I download this?

probably not. you could to www.tucows.com and do a search for "recording" and maybe find something either shareware or freeware there. Otherwise its good experience gained to type "recording " in a search engine or "midi recording" and check those links. You may find something that will help.

I would look at Cakewalk Home Studio 2002. It goes for about $60-70 in stores and as far as beginners would notice, its the same thing as Sonar. There are certain features missing, but I doubt you would even need them if you are just starting off.

As the post above said, Home Studio 2002 from Cakewalk is a very nice started program. That is what I used, adn I could not ask for a better program that gives me the tools I needed and yet is basic enough for just starting out.
