You brought up your own problem. "It seems most of the presets are muffled". Well yeah, the presets on modellers always suck. You have to play with the settings to find what works with your setup.
It's a modeller and it's not going to ever replace the real thing. That said it can be a useful too if you take the time to work with it. The first thing is to absolutely DO NOT listen to what anyone say's about this is better, that is better...on and on and on. It's all subjective and the thing is you want to find what will work for you, which means it may not work for others.
