Oh, nice! I have heard that these things aren't exactly gentle on the tape, mind.

Dude.
I've been trying to sell mine for a while.
Put it up on craigs several times.
Currently posted up on T...op.
I'm only 10 miles from your house to boot!
Mine is the 280B model which has the improved transport.
It also has a half dozen NOS headstacks!
half inch 2 and 4 tracks and quarter inch 2 and 4 tracks.
Plus an extra NOS moter and a bunch of other extra parts.

You just have to learn to shuttle and you will be fine.

Hey man!

Yeh I emailed with you! I'm Donny ... I was looking for a silverface w/ the mic pre-amps in it. I just recorded a track on this ... lots of bounces! kind of hissy but sounds very good. You should use yours instead of the 388 ! or at least try it out

Sounds like you have some kind of NOS surplus!

Oh, and I would totally buy yours as well to do machine-to-machine bounces if I had the space !

For some reason, mine actually is set up for automatic breaking (or whatever it's called), but I'm shuttling anyway because it's a little clunky on the stop after fast-winding (and man does it go fast).

That's what they say, but it's actually pretty easy on the tape. I'd say about the same (if not a little smoother) than the Ampex 440.

Hey didn't recognize your web name.
Greetings.
Yeah, space is the problem.
And time.

Very nice machine congrats looks in very nice condition....1/2" 4 track.?

thank you, Steve ... are you still bouncing on the 440 ???

Yep. I don't blame you for switching back to 8 track though it's hard to plan 4 tracks. I'm on a second song now I'm trying to figure out, but here's one that has a long history. Because I had one of those spills on my old transport, it ripped the middle of the song, I transferred it to digital to splice in some parts, then back on the 440. Then I added drums and bounced the drums and bass to one track in sync mode. Now I have two tracks left to add a couple things. Confusing story haha So here's the unfinished, unmixed MP3.
