Hey all
this is about recording rack, i thought that the best board for this post is here.
I need some advice on recording rack
i am recording (direct) my giutar thrugh a dist pedal (zom GFX-8) into a preamp/compressor (focusrite platinum penta) into my sound card/
The prob is thatthe sund is relly flat, i thought the premp will solve this but it didnt. i supposed that what i lack is some amp simulator rack, the one in the multieffect isnt that good.

What d you think might the prob? the sound is very flat and not warm. how do you guys record direct?

Thanks

To actually answer your question (instead of being an asshole or a n00b), the shitty tone you're getting is what happens when you don't use either an amp/speaker simulator (ok option), or an actual amplifier and microphone (much better option!). Direct-in, it will sound like crunchy, tingly, mushy shit.

If you can't record an amplifier for some reason (sleeping relatives, close neighbors, noise ordinances, etc.), you'll need an amp/speaker simulator (such as a POD). It will never, ever sound as good as almost any real amplifier and microphone, but it will get you much closer than what you're doing now! :)

The only thing that i have ever direct recorded that sounded decently good was clean guitar...but even then, i also miked my cab up to get the warm tones..Distortion will(at least in my case)sound like crap not matter what, if its directed recorded. Get an amp, an SM57 and a decent condenser.

Well ok guess got my problem solved, i had own a AKG c400 mic, but lacked a good amp. i now bought a peavey classic 50 tube amp so i dont need to direct anymore.
though would like to let you hear something i recorded some time ago all direct, this is the only time i suceeded making my guitar not sounding "mushy"

Man, I didn't see that when I listened. I thought the guitar sounded pretty good. The whole thing was a bit too drenched in 'verb for my tastes, but sounded pretty decent.
