So my friend and I went to guitar center today. I went to just check out some amps that I wanted to buy in the future. I asked about the credit card and they said I could fill out a form and I would find out if I was approved within minutes. So 5 minutes later, I found out I was approved. Got 770 dollars on my credit. I looked around and after playing a few different amps(a Crate Palomino, a paevey XXL head with a 5150 cab, b12 or b52 i can't remember, a marshall jcm 2000(or something like that), and a mesa boogie F 50). After trying out amps for a couple hours I decided to get the mesa boogie F50! for 899.99 used. My friend let me borrow the difference. The bastards at guitar center said they couldnt go lower with mesa boogie amps, especially since this amp just came in. I really tried nagged them but they couldnt do it. They gave me a free 35 dollar amp stand with it though. I really like this amp. It blows my old amp, a behringer 210 Vtone amp away! It's 50 watts and this thing has a massive sound! It's perfect for what I was looking for. It's small(1 12" speaker) but gets real LOUD. Louder than my friends Crate half stack. I'll post some sound files tomorrow. I didn't really record anything with it that I kept yet. It sounds really good though, at least in my opinion. Second in line was the paevey amp. It was a transtube hybrid amphead with a 5150 cab. It was the same price as the mesa, it was also used. I really liked it, but the mesa just was the better amp to me. This thing is built like a tank. It has two speaker outs so if I can always buy a cab later if I want. Right now this is enough for me! Just wanted to share this with you. Anyone else ever hear this amp?

I use to play gigs with a guy who had a Mesa Boogie similar to what you've described. I don't know what model it was, but it was a great sounding amp. Congratulations! :)

Sounds like a nice amp you got their man any chance of some sound clips?

DUDE! About freakin time man. Now do you see what we've been saying and why I've been gettin on to you. Welcome to the wonderful world of tubes.

yeah man im so happy. This was so unexpected. I can't beleive I have a 1200 dollar tube amp now. I'm glad I got used. This thing looks brand new. No dents/scratches. Nothing. I would have sworn this was new if the tag didn't say so. So a couple hundred dollars off is fine buy me. That peavey amp was real nice though. And it wasn't a full tube. Just a hybrid. But this amp has more balls then that one. And it obviously has more of a tube sound which I now love :) I'll have to take pics of it soon. Looks so pretty on it's stand. My friend got a bass today. So we are going to record some stuff soon. I can't wait till I pay this amp off so I can get more credit at guitar center. LOL. or....OR I can get a regular credit card ;)

Congrats man, it sounds like all the research and thought you put into this really paid off. Looking forward to hearing some sound clips...

it was used and they wouldn't go any lower? i guess they were really counting on that thing to sell.

I'm waiting for metalhead to come in here and say "I told you so!!", (albeit in his respectful manner, but still...... :D :D)

yeah they were. That's why they couldn't go lower. But they did throw in a free 35 dollar amp stand :) And I won't forget to mention that to them the next time I buy there :D

With all due respect, I just want to say.....I told you so. ;)

haha...

Seriously, I'm glad you took the plunge and you're happy about it. Good luck with the amp and all your recording endeavors.

The cool thing is, now you can start telling people to stop screwing around and get a tube amp! :p

I'll second that emotion!

Congrats! It's a brave new world with a good tube amp in your pocket! You'll love it more than you love your dog! I just joined the tube club also, mine aint as much muscle as yours, but the end result is the same......Love That Sound!

When I did research on thsi subject, recommends for Mesa outnumbered by a long mile all other recommends combined.....you did good!

:D

Haha! You've been pretty annoying with all your posts about wanting just a 5% improvement over your Behringer amp. I'm glad you've seen the (tube) light!

Now go record something.

Ahh, but you have merely achieved the first tier of gear snobbery. ;)

Next you'll need to get some high end mics and some boutique mic pres, maybe a whole rack full of vintage compressors and EQ's, some top notch A/D convertors, then you'll need to build an acoustically treated control room, blah, blah, blah....

That's why I'm no gear snob... :p

I currently have a 5150 II that I paid around 750 for because they were closing out the "5150" models. I've also got a JCM 900...and I don't remember what I paid for that one. And let me just say, screw the 900 haters because I love that amp for leads. That thing has stuck around with me longer than some other amps I've owned.

I run everything through a Marshall cab with Celestion G12T-75's...I don't remember what I paid for that either...

awesome man. I love my amp. It's pefect. Small since my room is small, a half stack would be kinda big, and has a lot of balls. I can get a number of distortion sounds out of it and clean. I'll post sound clips pretty soon.

Here's my amp. Budda Superdrive 30W 2x12. Love it. Sorry for the terrible blurry camera phone pic. I paid $1600 for it around three years ago. They are a little more expensive now.
