The Pie Guy
This lyric is the result of a recent personal loss. It is funny how certain things inspire you to write.......yes?

Goodbyes (Ode to Marty)
© 2001 Joe Rogier

Verse 1
I remember the day we met, the magic of two, without regret
Holding you close to me, together in perfect harmony
Passing time the way it was meant to be,
true happiness, joined with tenderness, you and I

Verse 2
There was something in the way you made me feel
Your warmth, your touch, you made my dreams so real
But, now you’re gone, another bittersweet song
How will I, Oh, how will I, ever carry-on.

Chorus
Goodbyes, sometimes, can last forever
They fill our hearts with longing memories
Goodbyes can lead you to another
Sometimes that is just the way it has to be
Goodbyes were never meant for you and me

Verse 3
Nary a word was spoken, as our case was finally closed
My promise kept, never broken, has we headed down the road
I brought you back, to where we met, on that warm bright day last summer
Our silent farewells, as my eyes last fell, on the one, that belonged, to another

Verse 4
I will always remember, the way we used to be
In tune with one another, a perfect harmony
Perhaps one day soon, you will come back through my door
And on that day, I won’t let you go, you’ll be mine forever more

Chorus
Goodbyes, sometimes, can last forever
They fill our hearts with longing memories
Goodbyes can lead you to another
Sometimes that is just the way it has to be
Goodbyes were never meant for you and me

very funny Joro...Id gladly give back some of the songs Ive written to take away the tragedy that inspired it...heres one of mine:

GOODBYE FOR NOW

I never wondered why, I just took life for granted
I always thought that you'd be there
But now you're gone, and they tell me life goes on,
But how can I face living
Without you here, the world seems so bare

Your light would always help me find my way
Now you're shining bright in heaven
Cry a tear for all you've left behind
And Ill smile for the life youve found

Chorus
Because this world that gives us life
It turns around and it takes sometimes
Ive learned to make the best of here and now
Cause I know somewhere down the line
In some other place and time
We'll meet again to share our lives somehow
Goodbye For Now

Now, I think of all the times we shared and laughed together,
I know we swore we'd never let them end
But now today, I turn and you're not there
But I know in my heart
Youll always be right by my side

I know we never had the chance to say goodbye
But I know you'll be there waiting
Cause youve always been my stenghth
My light, my will to live
And I know you've saved a place for me in heaven

Repeat Chorus

Actually had a publisher from Nashville that wanted this song, but he said he'd have to cut it down (too long for any chance at commercial success)...no thanks....

Gidge

Beautiful sentiment.
Beautiful lyric.

You did the right thing by not compromising your work.
I have often tried to write a lyric where I am not personally connected........
usually, the reader/listener can tell.
If you cannot "feel" your own words...how can you ever expect someone else to...yes?
