I have looked for a long time, does anyone know of a decent program? I am just wanting to tab out some notes and progressions to put with my songs. I don't mind paying for it, so not looking for free. Guitar Pro seems like it doesn't work very well.

Any assistance and guidance would be appreciated.

Guitar Pro is clunky to the extreme... but it works. I can't be bothered with it these days... if ever there was an app that needed to be built on a touch screen for an iPad, this is it, pain in the bum tabbing with a friggin' mouse! Surely someone's done it already?

Good luck! I'll watch with interest....

You aren't a fan of Guitar Pro?
I've used it for awhile now, and I think so long as you take the time to learn how to use it, it works just great for what it's supposed to do... But I suppose that's just my opinion.

I use it because I paid for it and have it and I have nothing else, but it just seems really clunky in today's world and ripe for reinvention on a touch screen - lol, not that I even have an iPad anyway... it's saved me a million times when I've forgotten how to play something. Just takes me forever to tab it out in the first place...

Imagine on a touch screen - touch touch touch touch touch touch, touch note length... done! You could do a tune in not much longer than it takes to play it. Possibly they've already done this...

Probably I just don't spend enough time with it to learn all the tricks it has... :)

I found something that looks like it might work. It is called TuxGuitar. I can trust it as it comes from Sourceforge (I am always wary of freeware). I will report back after a few weeks, but it is simple and looks like it will do the job. Only thing missing is showing a Capo on the tab, but that could be just finding how to do it.

Thanks for the inputs.

Yeah, some of my friends have used TuxGuitar. When I used it, it kinda seemed like it was free for a reason, but maybe it's just because I'm so used to Guitar Pro. xD
They seemed to like it just fine. Since it's free, you can give it a shot and see how you feel about it.

I've been using Tabit for years. Its $20, and you will not regret the purchase. You can download it free off of pirate bay. 20$ lets you get the program and post on the website forums and allows you to post tabs where a small community(it used to be much bigger) will rate them. It doesn't have any fancy features like GP and no capo feature, but you will never find a program that is so easy to transfer music from your hand and head onto paper to play back to yourself. Truly one of my favorite programs ever. There is also some really talented musicians in the community, and I always go back every once and awhile and see what some of my favorite users have written lately.

Check it out.

Now that looks like it might do the job. I will give it a try, thanks for the heads up.
