I'll third the "Wanted Dead or Alive" motion and here are some other cool ones:

Mercyful Fate-Melissa (ask her to kick you in the nutsack for the high pitched notes ;) )
Judas Priest-Dreamer Deceiver (very beautiful ballad)
Agent Steel-Still Searchin' (also a beautiful ballad)
Snowy White-Bird of Paradise
Boston-Amanda (replace Amanda with her name, as long as hers is 3 syllables... I mean, if she's called Hildegarten, it won't work. )

and the best:
Quiet Riot-Love's a Bitch :D

EDIT: if she's a 'rowdy' chick, just make her sing along to AC/DC's "The Jack" ;)

Why DM over Bon Jovi?

Why Bon Jovi over Depeche Mode?

'Cause John Mellencamp didn't sing "Forget about all that macho shit and learn how to play synthesizer."

If I understand, your question was rhetorical, no?

I think it's a lot more fun to take something a little outside the norm and add some creativity, makes it special. Doesn't work for everyone. The song I recomended I can barely stand to listen to now, way too synth and immature. I suggested rocking it out and mixing it up.
Main stream works if you are singing to a main stream girl. Not my cup o'tea.
If I had a chance to ride in an honest to goodness way-back machine, I would rather visit 30-40 cool people from the good ol' days than the general masses that listened to....saaaay, top 40. Yicky.
Cheers,

Oh boy, there are so many, but there's quite a few pretty easy 80's and early 90's rock ballads that'll do the trick and sound cool to do just Guitar and one Voice:

More than Words - Extreme (chicks love this one)
More than words can say - Alias
I won't forget you - Poison (really cheesy and really easy)
I'll be there for you - Bon Jovi
To be with you - Mr Big (another one young chick really dig)
Love Song - Tesla
Wind of Change - Scorpions
Every breath you take - Police (That F#min9 always kills my left hand after a while if the guitar is a nylon string because the neck is always wider)
Carrie - Europe
Goodbye to Romance - Ozzy
I remember you - Skid Row (Unless you have Sebastian Bach's voice you might want to transpose it from G to E [drop it a minor 3rd] so you can sing the chorus without having to sound like one the Vienna Boy's choir kids).
The flame - Cheap Trick (this one always does the "trick" for me)

Good luck,

Carlos

Hey Speeddemon, Dreamer Deceiver?

A song about getting seduced by Satan....

She'll love that... LOL

:D

Exactly Kelly! I ain't called Speedangel... ;)

but chicks WILL be scared if you can hit that high G# at the end of the song (right after the piano run)... they will think that you're really possessed!

or ball-less... :D

Nick Drake

Check out "Northen Sky" by Nick Drake

A really great beautiful song, capo the 1st fret and you can strum the chords if you want.

Save Yourself - Sensefield
Almost anything by Starsailor, it's especially helpful if you can sing.
Almost anything by R.H.C.P. again it's helpful if you can sing too.

I hate everything about you---Ugly Kid JOE
Seasons in the abyss--------------Slayer
I like my girls just a little thick-------Tjohnston

Laid - James
Used to Love Her - GNR
I Touch Myself - Divynls
Fade to Black - Metallica

Hope that helps.

On the serious side, here are a few that have worked for me:

Listening to the Radio - Adam Sandler (seriously.. it's a good song. very clever)

How's it gonna be - 3rd Eye Blind
Landslide - Fleetwood Mac

Yeah "Carrie" by Europe will go over real well, especially if her name is Julie.... and your ex's name is Carrie....hehe

:D

Well this entire thread is rather rhetorical for me, because the only girls I sing Bon Jovi to are my three daughters (age one to five), to which they inevitably respond "Daaaaaaad" in a condescending tone of voice. Even the one year old, it's amazing.

Anyway, yes Bon Jovi sucked, but the then termed "progressive" music wasn't much better. There was very little good songwriting in '80s music, be it hair bands of either type. Sure there are many exceptions, but review the Top 40 lists or the Top 100 albums list and it's largely a wasteland.

When songwriting finally revived in the '90s, I was rather pissed off because it seemed to me then, say in 1993, it was a watershed year for great rock 'n' roll, but I was just out of college, it was too late. I mean there were a lot of good solid college bands working on the breakthrough that was imminent, but it all came together that summer. You could listen to alternative radio and every band was new and every song was new and nearly every song was a great tune. Hard to believe that was 10 years ago now.

OK then, trying singing "Hey Jealousy" to your girl. Ten bucks says that song worked as intended when first performed.

Yes. OR:

Nick Drake, especially Pink Moon (good call on Northern Sky, eddbud)
Bob Dylan - Farewell, Angelina
Collective Soul - anything slow
Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should've Come Over
The Beatles - I'm Only Sleeping (well, anything really)
Soundgarden - Like Suicide (acoustic version)
Led Zeppelin - That's The Way

Play these, and if she has good taste in music, you're in.
