looking for a good soft synth

It really depends on the kind of music you want to do with the synth. Native Instruments does some pretty killer synths like the Absynth, Reaktor, Massive, FM 8 et al... Korg has some great ones as well, like the MS 20, Legacycell, Polysix etc

A great one would be, though, the EastWest Quantum Leap Goliath.

There are tons of soft synths, lots of them are free.
Are you looking for GM sounds,a sampler or symthesiser emulation?

For "near real" sounds I use Sample Tank. For "not real" sounds I use Pentagon.

Thanks for the info I will check out some of the
synths recomemded by the post
I will let you all know what I purchase and how it works

You might want to try the EMU X Board 61 which comes bundled with Proteus X with a pretty large collection of sounds. It also has a translator for different sample formats which works great.
