I think we need to really get into this thread. I am guessing that a lot of people here really do not need HUGE monitoring systems. I would even venture to say that models that are of importance here would need an additional sub set-up since a pair of nearfields that would NOT need an additional sub would be excessively expensive AND overly large models of nearfields speakers.
Has anybody found a nice smaller set of monitors? Through my research I have found 2 brands that kind of target this application nicely. NHT and Blue Sky. NHT had a m-00 and s-00 studio monitor series that has been replaced by a super 90 and 8/10d sub system. NHT does not have a sub crossover to filter the lines to their l&r monitors. Blue Sky does seem to, but their subs per system seem a good bit larger. The exo2 system seems good, but maybe a bit too small and the next system up has a fairly large sub.
Dynaudio has a smaller sub available, but their nearfields are fairly large (speaking in terms of their smallest powered unit bm5a).
