I need a good preamp with digital outs for under $500.00 I have a good soundcard with digital ins. Please advise.

DBX386- currently $300 at GC, really not a bad little preamp. Another option is to buy a TC Electronics M300, $200 at GC. It's a nifty little FX/reverb box. Plug any preamp into it, set it for "bypass", and use the S/PDIF out. It's a pretty good A-D box and a pretty good FX box for $200. What's not to love?-Richie

you can use basically any preamp and a ART Di/o.....

if you limit your search to preamps based on its having digitalouts you are limiting yourself.......

try a Delta DMP3 and a DI/o.......

Another feature of the a/d converter in the dbx 386 is the "type IV conversion". This basically acts as a limiter as the signal approaches clipping. I have used the 386 in the past and found the limiter function helpful in live performance recording to avoid those nasty digital overs. Of course the dbx 386 also has insert points on each channel where a compressor can be used. I used an FMR RNC on my 386 with very good results.

Yea, I agree, for the most part on the 386. I like the converters, and I think they're really useful.

I just wish the preamps didn't blow so much. :D
