People,

I'm really not that thrilled with my current web hosting service, as they only offer music streaming of Real Audio files, via their Real Server system.

I've noticed that most good music sites offer streaming of both Real Audio (*.ra) AND Windows Media (*.wma) files...the latter of which utilizes the Windows Media Server system. Normally...when it's one system only, it's Windows.

I would like to do the same.

Can anyone give me any tips on good web hosting services which offer Windows Media Server?

Thanks,

mark4man

Stay away from purevolume.com. I have tried twice to get on, doing everything that they said was necessary and have got no emails, no confirmations, nothing to state that I am a member or anything. That I find is bad especially after uploading my music!!

Soundclick is good and free. I use it. If I get word from Purevolume, I will edit this, but until then...........

purevolume suckss!!!!!!!!!

To tell you the truth Soundclick is really easy to use. If I can do it anyone can. They're having alot of problems with there servers right now but they've said they are addressing the issues now and will have them fixed by December some time. Good thing is it's free. Although you can only upload 128kps MP3's for that. For a fee they let you upload I think 320kps MP3's.

There are alot of sites out there. My advice is to go to the sites and look around. Maybe do a Google to find more then the one's even mentioned here. Good luck.

I'm a fan of AcidPlanet (by Sony). You get some good feedback there, especially if you leave reviews and are active within the community of the site. You can put on as many songs as you want, but they have to be WMA format. Anything I record I export to WAV files, but then I convert them to whatever I need. There's some really fast easy file conversion software out there, so it's no problem. You can upload mp3's for downloads on AcidPlanet, though. I use it and like it. Click the link in my signature to go there.

Try using Bandzoogle.com. They're a site builder that's dedicated to musicians only. You can put music on their for downloading or stream in Windows media format.

I'm using a cheap host called bananic.com; it was like $40 for a year of hosting and domain name registration. Pretty reasonable amount of bandwidth and storage space. Plus they have support for pretty much any file type you want, cgi stuff, SQL, etc.

Of course, you do have to design the site yourself, they don't give you templates or whatever. But hey, if you can write music and set up a home studio, you are smart enough and creative enough to learn HTML and design a site. It's a good skill to have anyway...
