Hi Guys, Does anyone know of any music creating software for newbies that is easy to learn and inexpensive? I'm looking for something that has a wide variety of instruments and more than three drum sounds. I went to a local studio and the guy put music to my lyrics with using "cakewalk" he showed me a little how he did it on his computer and I was like "wow you make it look so easy" but I'm sure if I tried it after I bought it, it would be much more mindboggling than I think. Can you help me out here?

thanks, Linda

Hello and welcome.

1. IMO, I would have posted this question in the "newbies" forum, as it appears to be more relevant for that forum than this one.

2. I would get acquainted with the gnarly and most-wonderful "search" feature that this forum offers, as this question has been asked multitudes of times and you're setting yourself up to get flamed by posting it, IMHO. Try searching for "Audacity" and "Kristal," two programs which may help you out and are both *FREE*.

Good luck!

Band in the Box, from PG Music, is one that works well for many. Many options and features.

Mr Moon - well done on making Linda feel so welcome... ;)

Singspiration - It really depends on what you want to do. Do you want to record live instruments (guitar, bass, drums etc) and mix them together with vocals? Or record a string quintet? Or use samples and synths to make backing tracks to mix with vocals? Or create sample-based dance music using loops? There are many options depending on what you want to do.

If you want to create your own backing tracks for singing to, then you'll need an audio/MIDI sequencer like Cubase, Logic, Sonar etc. But of course, you'd need to buy synthesisers, understand MIDI, audio, and of course, know what you're doing musically. On top of that, you'd need to get a mic for singing, along with decent pre-amps and/or a mixer, soundproofing, room treatment...

If you let us know exactly what your requirements are, then we can focus in and help you more.

:D
