Good mic for heavy guitar

Ev-635a its cheaper than the 57 too. I used this on the last band i recorded, i thought it gave me a pretty acurrate picture of the amp i was micing.

30-40 bucks on ebay, if you don't like it, your only out 30 bucks
 
Toker, I think the way to go will be the MD421 or 441.

If you really like bottom the 441 will sound wonderful, if you want more 'bite', the 421 will be the better choice.

If you want to hear how a 441 sounds on a Marshall, go to my website, soundfragments, rock example 2 (Silent Spring).

Of course the sound of the guitarist is always the biggest point.
 
I have used the 57 on yhr cone and a re20 about 1-2 feet from amp and blend to satisfaction.

Works on most folks.
 
In order, I try a SM57, Beyer M201,
RE-20, 421, and then my Shanghai LDCs.

At least until I get some Royer 121s
