What are some good mics for female singers that sing in high vocals???????

Hard call. I like an AT4047 on a lot of ladies.

Neumann U87
Shure SM57
Radio Shack (anything under $20)
Macintosh PC Mic.

These are the best ones I can think of unless others have better ideas. These should NOT be used for female vocals that sing in the low vocal range.

IF a female singer sings in the low AND high range, then you will need TWO mics. One mic to catch the high range vocals and one mic to catch the low range vocals. You will also need an active crossover network to run the mics. Mix both signals to a single channel on your DAW or recorder and add plenty of multiband compression. Got it?

Let me know when (and if) you try this and please post your results.

AT4060 and I've had good luck in the past with a CAD E-100

Don

maybe you should try checking out some singers that you would like to have they're type of vocal sound and find out what they use? i know shure.com has a list of who uses different mics.

KSM32

I went to shure.com and on a few it said the ARTIST use the Shure KSM32 for OVERHEAD, Whats the different between LEAD VOCALS and OVERHEAD?????

One is the centeral vocal and the other is above your head...waaay above your head.

As with everything in audio... it depends on the source (here the particular voice). But with that said, I like the Studio Projects C1 on many female vocals. It is somewhat bright, but its brightness is perfect for many female vocalists that I record.

the ksm 32 is a really good vocal mic, i just think alot of those artists probably use more expensive Neumann's and stuff. ive heard it used on vocals though and it sounds really good. doesnt color your sound to much(you sound like what you actually sound like), but sounds pretty alive.

another popular vocal mic around here in that price range... is the Rode NTK - but i havent used it so i dont know. is this for live, or recording?

recording

ROCKET BOY - I am using it for recording. Neumann's?????? Like which one's in perticular??? Do u think the mic i get for the female would also work good for a male singer????

REV E - Studio Projects C1, Like rocket boy said, the KSM32 doesn't have much color or anything, Will the studio projects C1 bring out a female's vocals or pretty much stay the same like rocket boy says the KSM32 does??????

You can use the same mic for females, and males.

When a guy is singing put the mic right side up, for a female turn it upside down. This actually works!:D :p ;)

Seriously, almost any large diaphragm condenser will work for either male or female voices.

You should consider whether or not you want to own several different mics, or just one great all around mic. With several different mics, you can "audition " different mics on each singer, and decide which sounds best for that particular voice.

There is no "perfect" mic for male voice, and another for females. You are wasting a lot of time looking for a perfect mic for each voice. If you owned 7 or 8 different LDC's you could go through them one by one until you found "the sound", you might even end up with a mic you didn't expect to be right!

You can however find a mic that will do a good job on most voices, then learn what kind of EQ to apply to bring out more of the characterisics you want for each voice. This is a very subjective thing though. That's why everybodies opinions are so different.

BTW, do you read the other posts in past threads? There are almost endless reccomendations if you take the time to read through them. I would say that would be better than posting the question, people won't give you such a hard time, plus you can get a lot more responses from more varied levels of knowledge than by posting 1 question about it.:D

The ones over $20 are used for male vocals. If you can find one for exactly $20, with tax, it can be used for both, though is not optimized for either.

cool i will have to look into that the next time im in radio shack...cause i really need a good mic so i can record the artist vocals better...right now i have a bull crap mic/headphone set...so im in the market for a good mic..thank for the help..this is a great question and good info..

uh, it's a joke

Yo Hotsauce! Problem is, there's no answer to your question. Certain people sound good through certain mics, and whether it's a man or as woman *makes no difference*. If you change keys, or songs, or preamp, or even the mix, you may need a different mic.
So there it is.- When you're putting up vocal mics for a woman, you put up the same mics you would try on a man, and then you find out what sounds good. Try Oktava MK319.-Richie
