Good Do-It-Yourself DAW Article

I've always heard stay away from the Celeron for audio work but this article is very convincing overclocking a Celeron 566 to 850MHz. It really caught my attention since I bought an ABIT BE6 II motherboard a month or so ago (one of the components he specifies). Saying components "should" work good together is one thing but seeing an article where the DAW is built and actually used makes me feel a lot more comfortable. I'm still trying to find a site where I can buy the 566 already tested at the higher speed like he recommends. The one he mentions in the article (pcnut.com) doesn't offer pre-tested Celerons. Sources anyone??

Hey Don I just went throughthe article and in the part where he talks about overclocking he included a link to http://www.advanceddesignky.com/ they have pre tested overclocked 566 celerons for $210
I don't agree with his choice of motheroards or the reasoning behind it considering he trades off the ability to move into tommorrows Daw with a UDMA ATA66 and settles for ATA33 because of so called poor memory performance from the i820 a VIA chipsets. I have heard mention of the memory issue but it is minimal. I think giving up up the faster drives is a bad choice. Just my opinion.
Here's a great article from the Anand Lal Shimpi this guy is the Godfather ( I think he is 18 or 19 ) of Celery cooking geekdom

TAE,
According to my BE6 II manual I can run up to 4 ATA66 drives at one time so I don't know where the inability to run 66 vs 33 drives came from. Thanks for the link on the clocking article. Thanks to also layth. I guess I didn't read far enough.

I thought it was a good article too (well, what I could understand of it), but a lot of it was lost on me because I'm unfamiliar with basic terminology. I thought a chipset was a meal in England... Can anybody recommend a (short) book that introduces computer technology for the short of brain? A short book, because I find computer stuff pretty boring. :)

OOOPS! I assumed when reading the article that when he mentioned using ATA33 drives it was because the MB was not able to run the UDMA ATA 66 drives. I guess it's just because it's what he had or he isn't aware of the need for speed in the Hardrive department. That said the BX boards are the best overall for overclocking. But....that ASUS P3V4X just has me going ga ga and I think it's the one I'm going for personally old Anand Tech gave it the "editors choice" award with it's latest drivers. Thanks for correcting me on the BE6 II boards ATA66 compatability.

for good articles and real life overclocking examples check out www.overclockers.com .. im currently running the abit bp6 with dual celeron 533's and im looking forward to getting that sucker to over clock to a minium of 600 mhz solid..
