Good cheap soundcard for homerecording?

Long time no post...I'm going to be selling my 8 track cassette portastudio and 'slimming down' to a computer setup for music and sound effects recording. I'm looking at getting a Mackie 1202 or 1402 for the mixer, but I'm not sure what to get for a soundcard. Does anyone have any recommendations as the "best bang for its buck" for the less expensive (under $300) sound cards out there? And if anyone could give me their opinions on which mixer to get, I'd really appreicate it. Thanks in advance!

The M-Audio cards and the Event cards are very good. I think the Delta 44 is a good buy for abolut $250 if you don't need digital out. I think the Darla 24 is about $300.

The new Spirit "M" series mixers are making a stir--both Home Recording mag and Recording mag have already reviewed and highly praised them. They are supposed to have the same preamps as the Ghost series, and the pricing is similar to Mackie.
