I've just aquired another computer just for music. Pentium 4 3.2 processor and 2 gigs of RAM. Has Windows XP Pro service pack 3.
Looking for an audio interface of any kind that works well with Audition 1.5. I'm only going to be recording 1 or 2 tracks at a time fo my duo partners CD, so I don't need lots of inputs. Plus, I have a couple of tube preamps also.
I figured you guys already have a lot of experience with 1.5 already, so who better to ask?
Thanks for any and all help.

Brian

Software like Audition does NOT talk directly to the interface.
(Except for ProTools, which uses the interface as a hardware dongle and you must use one from their approved list....)

Software talks to the ASIO driver which hooks through the OS to the interface; that keeps everyone from having to write software drivers to every new interface out there.

Here's a good guide and 'you cant go wrong with any of these' interface suggestions:

audio interface for 1.5

Hi Brian,

I just acquired a Tascam US-122L (USB 2.0 Audio/MIDI Interface). I paid $135 Canadian. For my uses, mainly recording parts on a pre-existing wave or MP3 file, it works just fine. Really plug 'n play. I had no problem recording or playing into Audition 1.5. The unit has an input/computer pan. This means I can vary the volume I'm hearing through the speakers, monitoring the existing track level, and the instrument I'm playing level, independently. I used to find this difficult before now.

If you want to use ASIO drivers, be advised that there was a huge improvement between Audition 1.5 and v. 2.0 in that the ASIO connectivity was tricky in v. 1.5. Even so, I used v. 1.5 with an M-Audio Delta66 that I got on ebay with excellent results. You'll need a mixer or a preamp to run a mic though. Four analog inputs and two digital in/out. Four analog outs. I use output 1 & 2 for my studio monitors and everything is pretty straightrforward. It runs at 24/96 unless you specify something less, and software can override the settings so its flexible.

Double check your card buss - make sure you can still install the older PC cards, or you will have to go with something new (and more expensive).

There's one now on ebay - Delta66 no reserve Target price would be about $ 100.
