Good Amp Sims

I use guitar rig 4 and i really like the tones i used to get but this has been vastly improved since recording the output to analogue tape (reel to reel styley) and reimporting into the daw.
Just my view.
Amplitube seems a little digital for my taste.
it depends on the track and how it sits in the mix, a bit of horses for courses.

Ive heard this aimed at Amplitube before but i dont get it myself...im no tone junky, for sure lol, but the fender amps are way better than GR5, and the vox ones are as good as my vox valvetronix

I do find amplitube a little noisier than some, i have a vamp pro and a line6 spider too, but its easily dialed out except in the high gain models, which are pretty noisy anyway

I do like the fender amps of all there is in amplitube i guess it just doent suit my ears and i havent tried the vox ones in Amplitube so i can't comment.

I have a pod v2 and a few Zoom amp sim processors too and dont get me wrong i have used Amplitube but as a matter of course i will opt for Gr4 just me.
I'm not having a go
I havent used the pod for ages and i'm not that keen of the line 6amps i find them a little coloured for my taste. Just me i guess.

Different strokes for folks

I feel the need to buy revalver...i barely record guitar, and acoustic drums, but theyre my favourite pieces of software...thinking about getting an electronic kit soon...there goes the neighbourhood :)

I've never used any others, but I do use amplitube free. I bought the Orange Rockerverb 50 and Fender twin (so basically the whole thing cost me $40). I have both those amps and amplitube is pretty convincing.

Of course, I'm half Jewish, so I'm not going to pay whatever GutiarRig costs.

EDIT: I think they give you $20 to start off with, so it cost me $20 more to get the other amp...I think...I can't remember too well.

Hey i have a question for you!!

Has amplitube gotten a little bit less of resource hog ??? I remember demoing a free trial version i got with a magazine probably back in 2004 or 2005 and it pretty much brought my computer to a screeching halt? So i have been kind of down on the product. It looks like it has alot to offer and times do change.

I like my Line 6 Stuff. I have gotten used to it, but i'd be willing to demo amplitube again if it was a bit more productive then what i used....

YES! Actually since 3.71 AmpliTube uses 30% less CPU and 35% less RAM!

The update from a couple months ago is significantly less of a hog than the one before. So if it's been since 2005, I'd check it out again.

Is amplitube a pre or post effect? Or both? It certainly "looks" pretty cool. I think it would be cool to have to just look at the GUI. I am not sure i would like to have an amp sim as a post effect. But then i have never really tried. I may try out that demo version just for fun.

I digress, I would feel like I am cheating on my little Pod.

You can get guitar rig 3 or 4 at a good price if you look in stores clearance sections,I saw guitar rig 3 going for £20 a few months ago.

I have Guitar Rig (the latest version) I have to admit that it gets really close to real amp. But I find it really useful for effects that I don't own (obviously) and all the overdrive/distortion effect. Seems easier to mix afterward.

Both you can place it wherever you'd like, though if you want to use it Pre with other effects you should look into the StealthPedal

I just started using Amplitube Metal. It's taken me and the guitar player a little while to figure out "his sound". I like it so far. We set up presets, so at this point we can plug the guitar in DI and just go. Tweak the sound later. Here's an example, but don't judge too harshly, I'm not done mixing this one yet:

+1 for Guitar Rig. The problem I found with Amplitube was that it introduced ear fatigue very quickly and I put this down to having too much top end sizzle, as if they used an enhancer on every amp to give that mastered effect as a deliberate tactic. ;)

Get Guitar Rig and all your wildest dreams will come true.

I disagree with your assertion completely.

Go to 2:45 of that song I posted. That is probably the best guitar track I've ever done, all with Amplitube Metal.

You quoted my whole statement yet the only assertion I made was about your dreams and guitar rig. The rest was an opinion. My ears might be overly sensitive to top end sizzle, something which Amplitube has too much of :D

Where's OBIK in this little internet smack talking debate? This would be a great time for hime to pop in and plug his company.

POD HD500 or 1 or 2 Amplitube amps are my choice. I never bonded with GR.

Revalver is the only one i havent tried yet...i reckon i just got to a point where i cant see the point of yet another sim

But now ive ordered a new fender tele i think i might give it a go for more options

Ive heard you agree woth cfoxs premise before G but really the copperhead and orange amp in amplitube are better than GR, imo of course..lid say ampitube is noisier than GR, and GR wins as an FX module, but other than that theyre two sides of the same coin

I notice brainworx have introduced their own limited modelling, i bet it rocks...well worth checking out :thumbs up:

He's been banned so no need to pay the troll any attention. AmpliTube Metal rocks, thanks for sharing your song with AmpliTube powered tone. :)

Yeah they're all the same. I can EQ out the fizz and harshness of amplitube and it'll sound the same as anything else. Like everything, it's all up to the user. People that don't know any better will sound like shit no matter what sim they use. Someone capable will sound good with any sim.

Another thing that I've noticed with the better quality sims out there.....they don't care what kind of guitar you use. With a real amp, you can easily tell the difference in pickups, strings, quality, construction, etc. A cheap guitar sounds cheap through a real amp, and a good guitar will sound good. With sims, a $100 Squire will sound pretty much exactly the same as a $1500 USA Strat. An Epi LP will sound like a real LP. The difference between single coils and humbuckers is still very noticeable with sims, but you don't need a $2000 Les Paul if you're only using sims. A cheapo Epi version will do just fine.

Thats an interesting point G....as all my guitars are sub $500 im sticking to sims! Lol
