Anyone know of a good sounding pre-amp that would warm up the tone of an acoustic for live gigs? (not too spendy!)

I have an acoustic cabinet & power amp, but I need something to warm it up before the amp.

Thanks for any suggestions,
Kirk out.

There was a previous thread regaurding best acoustic amps that listed some acoustic preamp option recomendations. I don't recal the names but do a search in this thread for "best acoustic guitar amp" and you should find it.

Do you have access to a PA? Lots of direct boxes are available that are inexpensive. I use a Carvin DI that set me back a whole thirty bucks; it has the basics.

But for really high quality and accessible pricing, it's hard to beat Raven Labs. Here's a preamp that might do the trick... Follow the link, click on products and click again on MDB-1

Treeline have you used much Raven Labs stuff?

Their new True Blue EQ parametric EQ sounds like a good unit and I know Raven has a good reputation and history with Steven Rabhe (sp?) being the guy that started SWR.
Just curious if you are recomending based on reputation or experience

Never used it (I'm still at the cheap seats DI stage), but I've heard solo acts live using the PMB1 blender, and a combination of the PMB-1 and the True Blue parametric EQ, (Martin Simpson uses the two together) and it sounded pretty wild. Very clear, clean, even with a mediocre PA.

this thread is right up my fretts.

i also want a cheep preamp. am a solo performer also. i have a martin d-35 with a built in system, thats no problem.

problem is, i installed a thinline in my cheepy(great playing though) yamaha. i run both the martin and yamaha thru my boss 7 band eq before my pa. but i still need a boost for the yamaha.

i tried an old barcus berry power boost i found out of some 20 year old equipment. it works but sounded like crap on stage.

sooo, what can i use as a pre-amp? i have eq going on so i don't need that---so much. but i do need a strong powerful signal.

any $29 suggestions?

I understand being broke but I don't think anything @ $29 would be worth buying/installing.

You might check www.stewmac.com for a battery powered internal acoustic preamp. I think that would be the least expensive option but I would still expect a minimum cost of $75-$150.

I just checked for ya,

Stewmac has several options from $50-$180. Look under trasducer preamps. The Fishman "Power Jack" preamp (no EQ or volume) is the one for $50.

Check it out.

thanks "truly" for your research but i know about the obvious preamps for accoustics. been playing them forever. i want a direct box or something state of the art to push my rig. the ole fishman preamp thingy's are the last resort!

Can't help you there then $29 won't buy one of those that I know of.

I have a friend with a Martin with factory(Fishman?) installed who uses the BOSS stompbox EQ/Preamp.
