My recording chain has been: mic of choice to BG-1 pre-amp to Speck ASC EQ to DBX 160 compressor to Kurzweil Rumour then digital into the Korg D1600 workstation. I am very happy and comfortable with this setup.

Here is where I need help. I have added Reason 3.0 for some of the nice loops and sounds that can be created. I want to use Reason "live and in real time", but I am not getting a clean sound AND there is a significant delay, latency. I am using a new laptop with plenty of power and Echo Audiofire2 soundcard, not the best but should be fine for what I need.

I have posted here because to so many of you guys, this is a very basic problem. To me, the search on this topic is like French. Can you help a computer dummy?

So you're going from the soundcard to the Korg via analog? s/pdif?

The card has balanced out and Spdif, you tell me. What do I need to do. I tried the balanced out through the set-up I currently use and not good results. I tried the balanced out to XLR direct into Korg, and really bad results. Right now, I am at a loss.

So the Korg can handle 2 analog inputs? That's what I'd try first. If latency's a problem on the laptop, make sure you're using the asio drivers and reduce the number of buffers to a minimum.

If it still doesn't work you could record the reason loops into the Korg first, then overdub your mic
