Gonna buy a new Ride! Need HELP on 3 choices!

I am soooooo stuck on my choices of these 3 rides.
The 20" K Custom Ride
The 21" A Series Sweet Ride
The 20" Ping Ride

I of course know I have to go to the shop, listen, and judge for myself. But I can't help it, opinions do work for me, always have. Oh oh, the kinda music I play is indie rock. On the lines of Appleseed Cast and Mogwai. What do you guys think. ANY opinions of ANY of these cumbals is awesome.
Thanks.
Rob

Damn, and I thought you were going to tell us about your new Harley! Oh well.-Richie

i have the 20" K Custom. I love it--it's the ride i've always wanted. nice mellow wash, distinct sounds from different areas of the cymbal, nice ping on the bell, and i use it for just about every style of music i play (jazz, country, rock, hard rock and just about everything inbetween--my band is kinda schizophrenic :D). i don't play a lot of gigs (so it doesn't see a lot of road abuse), and the K sits very well in a recorded mix.

i also like the 20" A Ping (and the A Custom), but they were a little "clangy" for me as I wanted something darker and drier. the A would be a little better suited if you wanted something more aggressive than the K and with a bite/ping that cuts through a live mix with screaming guitars. i plan on getting an A Ping (or something similar) at some point, just so i can have the sonic flavour. there are definitely times where i want that Neil Peart style ping cutting through the mix.

haven't played the Sweet Ride, can't give you any thoughts about that.

basically it comes down to which cymbal you think will fit better in your style of music and which sound you're looking for. both the A Ping and the K Custom are excellent rides and you really couldn't "go wrong" with either of them.

(as a side note, though..........if you like the A Ping, though, you owe yourself the duty to check out the Sabian Paragon (Neil Peart) Ride--VERY similar sound to an old A (and thus to the Ping ride), and IMO, a bit nicer of a cymbal than the Zild pings are these days. it's 22in, though, and might be a little too gongy for you. definitely a sound i wouldn't mind having at my disposal when the funds are right....)

they are all great but I'd go for the K

just to clarify

it's the K Custom DARK that i have. not the plain K Custom. considerable difference in cymbal there. :D

Thanks everyone!

yeah it's the regular K Custom ride I want, with a brilliant finish. The man at the store (Guitar Center, ...I know) said that a flat and brilliant finish ARE NOT night and day, but there difinately IS is a difference in tone. I tried the 3 rides yesterday. The K is heavy and LOUD! Awesome ride! Wonder if it's too loud for recording though. The A Series Ping ride has less PING than the K, but good ride. And the Sweet Ride, well, I didn't see whats so sweet. It has too much wash for a ride, but maybe that's a good quality on it's own. What do you guys think of 2 rides in a setup? Maybe I could use the Sweet Ride as a crash, and be original. lol
Thanks everyone!

I would definitely consider the Sweet Ride to be more of a 21" Crash. I love my A Brilliant Ping.

I for one favor two rides. It gives you not only two different rides to work with, but it can add to different playing. For example, I would position the first ride near its "traditional" spot (near the floor tom), and the other near the hats. A personal preference of mine, I like working with the hats and rides simutaneously as well as transitioning from one to the other very easily. Again, IMO, it works well that way. Besides, I wouldn't have the foggiest idea of where to put another ride if it called for it. :)

I used 2 rides - plus a ride crash.........

Personally - i love my 20" Custom A ride.......... and that's the one I use most - I also have a Z 70's 22" sizzle ride and an Z 18" crash ride.......... and I love em all.

The K's have always been a bit on the dark side for me....... but the decay on them is faster than on the A's......

The Sweet ride makes an awesome crash! But, it also makes a very versatile ride as well. They have just enough wash to give them that '60's rock, or Alex Van Halen sound, which I happen to love. But it also has warmth and ping as well, and a nice bell sound. I've used 2 rides before and still do sometimes. the sweet ride as a ride and a 20" Medium as a crash.

I have a custom A ping (brilliant) and it's sweet sounding on my recordings. Cuts through nice and clear.
