Any users or opinions out there? I've been in the market for a ribbon for awhile and saw some post's on this one that looked interesting. Active appeals to me as it would see mostly live use for a symphony.

For $200. it's not a bad microphone. The active part is kinda weird for us old timers who usta triple check to make sure that the phantom power was turned off before using a ribbon microphone - it has a pad and roll off as well!

The whole series from Golden Age is great, the R1 and the R1 MK2 are all good in respect to what they have to offer.

To me these microphones look suspiciously similar to the Nady ribbon microphones. Possibly the same factory in China that makes the bodies and head baskets for other companies.

Just received mine in the mail last night. My first ribbon mic! Plugged it into my ISA one and recorded myself, acoustic guitar and vocal. I thought it sounded great. Smooth and warm. Recommended.

Yes, many of the Chinese ribbons - Nady, Golden Age and T-Bone mics (and some others) clearly come from the same factory, and have identical parts. Some of the details like the transformers change between models and even between batches of the same model. But they are pretty much the same.

Often the same mic will be packaged in a different body, so those lollipop shaped ribbon mics often have the same motor assembly and tranny as the bigger RCA77 inspired mics.

I haven't tried the active version, so can't comment on that.

I love ribbon mics!

Cheers!
