Hi...I am new to the digital comp recording, have tons of analog, don't know which A-D-A sytem to start out with. I've narrowed it down to the Aark 24 PC with Cakewalk 9.0, STA Audio DSP2000 w/Logic Soundtrack 24, Terratec EWS88 w/Emagic Logic 4, or the more little more expensive Echo Layla 24 PCI w/Cubase SX. All are 8 analog I/O, 24/96. I want to record 24 tracks min.
I have a Soundcraft FX16 mixer, all DBX outboard gear, comps, eqs, Midiverb 4, Ultrafex Pro, need advice on which of the interfaces would work with my gear. I've got the computer to handle these systems. Just built a new shed and trying to upgrade my recording stuff from the Tascam 4 trk. Any help would be appreciated. Ralph

no posts yet outta 40 views...I know there's some digital domain Gurus here. I just need to know your opinion on the best hardware/software combo for an 8 I/O ADA interface under $700, running 2.0 Ghz 512 cache, 256 MB DDR, 40 GB @ 7200rpm, Pen 4
BTW...great site, found ya on Proaudio

They are all pretty comparable. I haven't specifically used any of them but I would lean towards the Echo/Cubase combo. I hated Logic and Cakewalk isn't as full featured as their Sonar program. Just make sure whatever you get is compatable with your OS and mobo.

Check out the new Behringer ADA8000. For $200 it's a killer 8 channel preamp with ADCs,DACs and ADAT i/o for the price. Just add a sound card with ADAT i/o like Terratec ews88d and n-Track Studio software and you'll have a pretty capable recording system for less that $500.

Here's some RightMark tests I did with my ADA8000 to give you some idea of its audio quality.

Thank you Roadkill & Halo, you both helped alot. The graphic analyzer stuff is a bit over my head, understand the THD and some of the frequency responses. I'll check out the Beringer ADA, where would I find these programs like; Terratec and the NTrack for a good buy? What system compatibilities are important to look for? Should I upgrade from 256 mb DDR...I know lots of questions here that have been answered over and over...I did find a real good link here called tweakheadz.com, going to take awhile going to "class". haha I've been in the music business for over thirty years, playing out, never been a multitracker, outside of my 4 trk, I use a 424 now for song ideas, but I would really like to get into the recording studio aspect more now, I've recorded 2 331/3 rpm albums and had 3 45's (what's that?) and my wife and I have recorded two CD's, been in the studio lots but need my own, All this tech stuff is freaking me out. I would like to start off with something that woun't have audio drop out and have a good sound and I would like to stay with the A-D rather than get a DAW standalone type recorder. Thanks for your help, it's giving me some direction. rock on-Ralph
