I apologize if these are stupid questions, but I don't have much experience in the use of usb instead of actual midi ports from the soundcard.

I recently had my place broken into and my pc tower was stolen, along with some other equipment, which I've had to replace in the last couple of weeks.

Fortunately, I still have my laptop, but replacing a soundcard on this is something I can't do so I got a usb keystation from m-audio and an mu80 that came with French instructions

Will I be able to use the mu80 thru to keystation via the usb to laptop or do I need an extra usb midi interface?

yea i know how you feel about the shit being stolen some fucker stole my DELL inspiron 1100 and it had 1000's of ins and all my work.... god... its the worst fucking thing and im still paying for the fucker

Yes. Here's a link to one. LINK. If you just want to get the midi info in and out of your laptop one of these would fill the bill.

lol, I wish you hadn't shown me that tascam. That one might be the one I need to get. Might as well feed everything thru usb. I don't have much faith in the mic/line in for audio recording.

thanks,

SM

If you're planning on doing ANY audio recording at all, a dedicated interface (like the Tascam) is the way to go.
