As stated in my last post I'm extremely green to the wilds of CoolPro, and I have another question. Sorry for not knowin nuthin, but I want to try and figure out some stuff before hand so I'm not wasting my time.

I want to sort of "Master" some old portastudio recordings on cool edit. Question is , is there any way to get any seperation between tracks?
If I'm mixing down from the 4track with a L and R out (RCA) out to the PC (in on the little mini line in), is it possible to pan the tracks 4 and 3 all the way left and the tracks 1 and 2 all the way right and record on the PC a seperate track for the Right channel and a seperate track for ther left channel? I'd like to be able to EQ and compress the music and the vocals seperately if possible.

Also, if I have an MP3 file I want to clean up, do I have to make it into a .wav file before I can pull it up in Cool Edit?

Thanks for your help.

Hey Rats,

I can't answer your mp3 question, but may be able to help woth the other.

If each of the tracks on your porta are dedicated to a specific instrument, I would recommed that you mix each track down seperately. You will then be able to sync them up with your wave editor.

If you have stereo tracks, you can mix them down as a seperate stereo track.

By doing it this way, you will have more control over your mixes on cool edit pro.

I just want to let you know that I do not own cool edit pro now do I own any other computer recording software. I am just trying to relay how to mix it down to your computer.

Since I have a VS-880 and am looking to get into moving to computer, this is the method I will use to transfer my material.

I hope this helps.

Peace
Joe

thanks for the advice mister.
How will the tracks get synced up in cool edit once I get them all recorded in there.
I understand I can mix down all 4 tracks from the Portastudio seperately, but hen they will all be out of sync and off beat, right? How does that work, is there some kind of beat locating mechanism of some sort?
Cut and paste? Whats the deal?

I realy can't help to much with this.

I did download and play with n-tracks a while ago and transfered multiple tracks as I explained earlier. What I did then was to zoom in on the tracks and drag the tracks to line up correctly. It was a bit of a pain but I was able to do this with 8 tracks in about an hour. This also included trying to learn the software and how to do it.

a little help on mp3 question....

Sorry but the standard CEP can no work with MP3's

I know that cool edit pro has plug-ins so that you can import and export mp3s... there is info on them at their company's website...

but i think the plug-ins cost money...

im not sure where to look but im sure you can find free programs that can convert between mp3 to wav and wav to mp3

Good Luck

Orlot

Cool Orlot, thanks for the info. It seems like the guy who gave me the software said something about an update included in the disk that had something to do with encoding MP3 and wav but I can't recall.

Thanks anyway, I'll fool around with it and see what I can find out.
