GM with M-Audio Audiophile 2496

I was wondering what the quality of General MIDI sounds is like on this sound card. Does anyone have a sample or something that I can listen to?

Or: Does anyone know a sound card with really good sounding GM? Or is it just the nicer the card, the better all the sounds in general?

The Audiophile, as with many other semi-pro to pro cards out there, doesn't have its own MIDI synth engine on it. You're either connecting an external midi synth or using software synths...

There used to be cards out there like the Korg Oasys that had a nice synth engine on them, but they were pretty rare back then, to, and nowadays basically nonexistent. Rackmount and keyboard synths to MIDI interfaces, either on PCI sound cards or USB boxes are what people use these days.
