I am considering the purchase of a Glyph Project X 40GB Firewire Drive to use with my Digidesign Mbox. The Drive is being liquidated, it has never been used, but was manufactured in November of 2001. Does anyone know whether this particular drive uses the Oxford 911 bridge chip?

According to Glyph's data sheet, the X-Project is compatable with the 001 and the Mbox. And it's a 7200 drive with 8.2 mean seek time, so its appropriate for audio work. They don't, however, say specifically that it uses the Oxford 911. You might try calling or e-mailing if you are concered. I guess I might be more worried about the size of the drive--40gb. It sounds like 80 or 120 might be better for the long haul, depeding on how much you record or store.
Glyph drives are appealing because they appear to test for compatibility with specific systems. On the other hand, they are more expensive and I see alot of people suggesting cheaper drives.
