giving an electric guitar a bit of acoustic sounding

Hi there,

Im not sure where to post this. Admins please feel to move thread to the appropriate forum if you feel it doesnt belong to Recording Techniques.

So, im looking for some advice from you music gurus on how to make an electric guitar sound more acoustic. I remember trying the Boss Acoustic Simulator (or something) at my local music store back in time and it did enhance the sound a bit.

Now, what would you suggest to reproduce that effect? Add some reverb, slight delay? Double'ing track, inverting phases? Eq'ing for sure, but boost what by how much?

Are you trying to make an electric sound like a REAL acoustic, or are you just trying to enhance it's sound?

You'll never get a real acoustic sound out an electric, but you can easily add cool acoustic elements to an electric. I'm a longtime fan of (and have also done a lot of recording with) the Boss acoustic simulator, which doesn't sound like an acoustic of course, but has a really cool and useful sound - a lot like an electric with piezo pickups (ala Parker Fly).

Trick #2 would be to take a small diaphragm condensor and mic the strings, and then blend that track in with the "real" guitar track. You'll get the pick attack and add a nice acoustic element to the sound.

i just want to improve the sound a little, know which tricks/plugins combos could simulate an acoustic guitar, juste like the boss pedal does.

I third the mic'ing strings. This works well on heavy distorted riffs to add definition, as well as clean sounds to add shimmer.
You can also double the part (may different chord voicings?) with a real acoustic a la Pete Townshend.
