Hi...Can i plug an electric guitar into a PA direct using the banana jack and get the normal sound...how would it go if I went thru a multi effects unit before the PA ...i know theres an issue with impedance doing this but not sure what it is...does the multi effects account for any impedance issues ...thanks

I tried to connect direct to our PA at church (don't know the brand and model right off). It worked only with the gain on the PA maxed. If I remember, the guitar was on 10 also.

The PA's manual has a connection diagram, and it shows a guitar connecting through a DI box. I got a Behringer for about $40, so that I can play "normally" and the guitar and the sound man have some head room. (Improvements in Chinese manufacturing have not reached the Behringer production line. The "fit and finish" is crude, but it works and the price is right.)

I used my guitar into a pod6 on clean and into my pa. at a fundraising breakfast last week and I was surprised, it was not a guitar amp sound but for that it was fine.

An electric guitar derives much of its characteristic sound from a guitar amp. Guitars amps are intentionally designed with a boost in the mid range to give them some 'punch'.

Running a guitar through a PA or home stereo, etc. usually produces a thin washed out sound. It may be fine in some circumstances; ultimately it's up to the player whether it suffuces.

Guitar effects boxes are sometimes designed with speaker or amp simulation circuits so that they can be run directly into a PA or other non guitar amplifier. These circuits emulate the specific EQ designed into guitar amplifers. I think the POD has this circuitry, so does the GT-6 I used to own.
