This song is rather ancient. I wrote the majority of it in 1976 with a little bit of help from eric Drabwell (he showed me the simple G & Bm chords). I added the intro & outro 32 years later. Terry added new lyrics and melody then Kim (my missus) added the original lyric & melody as a counter melody. Miriam Webb did the good cellos.
I decided to have the track professionally mastered & discovered that with a decent full sound it was too busy so I had to edit the cello in the 1st verse. A full remix ensued.
I sent the stems to Jan at Finemastering & he treated them for sonic problems, (and having been 1st recorded on portacassette4track and then imported into a daw then mucked around with for years), it had a LOT of sonic issues.
Jan cleaned it up amazingly well and the end result is to be found at:

Yup, pretty clean. Best I've heard this song yet. You getting everything redone?

Sounds good - brighter/bolder - mastering adds a little shine to an already great tune!

Greg,
not everything but a few things. HH & Kennedy Avalon are in the drop box for you to listen to & await your recommendations or endorsement.
Gerry,
Thanks mate - Kim's voice came up well.
Philter,
Soundclick can be like that - iffy then comes good. Try again please.

Link wasn't working for me either, Philter. I just went right to Ray's Soundclick page and clicked the song directly.

You've posted this before, haven't you? I guess I'm just a sucker for any song with "Gimli" in the title.

Lead vocal gets pretty buried around the 1:50 mark (and a few other spots, but that's the one where I checked the timer.)

What was up with the crash at 2:55? It jumped pretty abruptly between the channels?

Needs more vuvuzela! :D

Very nice. It has a real vintage sound. Is that Zamfir on the pipes? I like the haunting sound of the melody. Great tune sir.

Cool tune ray - got a real pastoral beauty, like the folkier Led Zep songs or Incredible String Band. I like how the similar threads list at the bottom is just a list of previous iterations of the song - I'll have a listen soon and see how it's evolved over time.

It reminds me of the mommas and the poppas or something lol. Very cool tune though. I've always liked classic rock and oldies more than new pop and rock music. I can imagine back in the day lighting up a fatty or dropping a tab and really enjoying this hahahah.

This is way better sounding than any previous version I have heard. Persistence pays off. Well done ray.

Rob,
ta mate - that's very nice of you. The song has had a few inarnations as I've built on it through ideas but more often through learning more from this forum.
Cheers
FoulPhil,
well it was written in 76 - just as punk hit London but while Sydney was still basking in those little delights you mention. Glad you liked it!
Cheers
Heat,
Worked on & getting close to overwrought so I decided to get it mastered so I'd STOP! Thanks for agreeeing with the endpoint.
Cheers
