Looks really like a "Newbie" question ...

Is anyone here able to tell me the exact characteristics of my Gibson Marauder bought by my father in '74 in USA (not the hawful European model !) ?

Body : ???
Neck/Profile : ???
Fingerboard : ???wood , 22 frets
Inlays : bullets
Scale/Nut Width : ???
Binding : ???
Bridge/Tailpiece : Tune-o-matic/Stop bar
Hardware : Nickel
Pickups : ???
Controls : vol & treble

It still sounds wonderful. However, I would be glad to get info from other Marauder owners and learn about any improvement or maintenance suggestions (pickups, frets, ..., ?).

I mainly play rythm & solo guitar on Classic Rock (Toto, Dire Straits, Bryan Adams, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Santana, Police, U2, Simply Red, Bob Marley, Tom Petty, Lenny Kravitz, ...).

Materials : The front pick-up has one Indox VI and two Indox VI I ceramic magnets, and the back pick-up has 2 Indox VII magnets. Pick-ups are epoxy-mounted.
Sound : Very high output and broad spectrum sound

Number & type
One master volume control, One master tone control
One full-range "pan" type selector switch (potentiometer) which allows mixing any amount of the two pick-ups together. Control can also select the pick-ups individually.

Do you own a Marauder ?
Did you make any modification to it ?

For the moment I do not feel any particular problem with the sound. I'm in fact very happy with it.
My current setup is :
Gibson Marauder -> Digitech 2101 Artist (Valve preamp, multi FX) -> Mixer -> MT Recorder or PA system
I assure you: it rocks !!!

In fact, the background reason of my post is this : I plan to buy a second guitar. Therefore, I try to better understand what are the crucial characteristics that make the sound as I want ...
What about current pickups ? How do they compare (Alnico, Seymour Duncan, EMG, ...) ?

Any recommandation to halp me to select a second guitar are welcome (budget < 2500 $). Here is my current shortlist :
- Gibson LP Studio
- Gibson LP Gary Moore
- Gibson LP Standard Plus
- Gibson LP Special Plus
- Godin LGX
- PRS Singlecut
- PRS Custom 24
- Music Man Steve Lukather
- Ibanez JS100 (?)

By the way, you may note that I HATE Strato toys ...

No I don't own a Maruader. (but I've played plenty in the music store where I used to take lessons back in 1980) So I know them well,.. they were ok.
The stock P/U's in your Maurader are not as hot as the specs I thew in my reply, as a matter of fact I would pop in an EMG in the neck and (depending on your taste) maybe a Tex special in the bridge.
The best value in the metioned list is probably the LP studio. Though I LOVE the Les Paul DC cutaway. (about $1,400)
