Hi, I want to get Adam Clayton's bass sound.
Why, you may ask? Because it's great, and I know he's not Bootsy Collins but I don't care.

He has a warm , ballsy, creamy sound. Take for example "Wit or Without you" bass line. Very simple notes. But I think what it makes it work is the feeling given to it by the bass tone. It has a rumble, an "mmmmmphh" quality, and the way the notes blend together, speacially you can tell when he changes the root.
Ah, and of course, how can you get that sustain?

Any tips or advice? The more player's technique oriented the better (I mean, buy an Auralex Resonator in Your Face 760 is good, but the simpler the better).

Cheers guys, and a good life for all.

I don't know much about him, but what I do know is that he plays without a pick......

Thats probably alot of the low boomy type sound.....

His bass knobs are set to give that lower scooped out bass sound rather than a midrangy sound.....

I don't like talking about other guys knobs, so thats all I can tell you..... :D

I think "With or Without you" was direct also......

but not too sure on that either...

I have a Fender P-bass '76 and a JoeMeek VC6Q. I think I could find something close to Clayton's sound with those without too much of an effort. The VC6Q rocks for DI bass (and many other things).

And he does play with a pick on many tracks.

Cheers
/Henrik
