Could anybody share their ideas with me? I was wondering how many ways I could use my one effects unit( which is a Microverb III) to achieve a finished product. Knowing that you typically add different effects to different instruments, then maybe reverb to the overall product, could anybody share any knowledge or experience that could help this effects-challenged guy out?

Plus, if you had only one effect to put on your song to mixdown, which would that be??

Don't take life too seriously. You'll never get out alive!!

You would rarely run reverb over the entire mix. Usually you hook them up to an effects send and add as much as you need to the individual tracks. What kind of setup do you have? Mixer, DAW, what?

To expand on what TexRoadkill said, you will have to apply whatever effect to 1 track at a time. Basically, you will play the track out of the appropriate output, through the effects processor, and into the input for another (empty) track.

The only problem you run into here is that unless you have just as many empty tracks as you have recorded tracks, some of your effects will be very perminent. Although you might be thinking 'I'll just get the sound they way I want it and I won't have to worry about it', be careful. When you to your final mixdown and realize that the vocals have just a little too much [insert effect here], you won't be able to undo that effect. If you do have the available tracks, then have at it as you can always try again until you get it right.

I have a Yamaha MD8 and a Microverb III. That's pretty much it for now.

I was just wondering how much I could do with it enroute to a final mixdown.

Just playin' around.....

the only thing i really ever use reverb on is vocals and drums... i have a microverb 3 aswell. you could probably get away with using the same reverb for vocals and snare by sending them to unit via a subgroup... my experinence with this unit suggests do not go over kill!!!!! it's excellent for subtle use, i find the halls are great as long as you don't mix them too wet.. reverb is very easy to over use, but the only thing that will tell you your using too much are your own ears...

reverb as with all effects is an option, not a necessity. don't be tempted to use it just because its there :)
