if I have anything to add, I've noticed that certain intruments/tones/sounds complement each other. Like a nice long reverb on a snare will have a huge presense in a slow mellow track, but in a fast chaotic melody it gets lost in it etc. Or bass that is real angry and deep/loud will make the drums dissapear more so. I think if you use the right sounds and tones together, makes things seem like they jump out more or less. baaah, you all know this I'm sure.

Try a 6 dB/octave rolloff starting about 1200 Hz.

you serious here? haha. I used to do that, usually about 15000...and it sounded better on my speakers. however, people said that it lacked a high high end on thiers....

The ozone folks have a downloadable mastering tips guide for use with their product as well as just general info.That's where I copped that idea and have tried it on mixes.Because the roll-off is so gradual (-6 dB/octave over less than two octaves) it just seems to smooth stuff out as opposed to killing the highs so much.Checking out commercial mixes on a spectragraph like gram.exe,it does seem to be used a fair bit.
