For the most part I like my Rode NT1 but I find it a little on the bright side. I normally track everything with eq flat but when I do this with the Rode I have a hard time getting enough bass in the vox at mixdown. If I record with a little added bass or cut highs, then I get this undesirable over eq d sounding track. Singing closer to the mic helps get bass to it but there are some songs or certain lines that I"m singing too hard to get close.

ANyone know any tricks?

Just a little point. Make sure you use the side with the silver/gold dot as the front. It took me a while to find that out.

when people buy mics they buy the mics for their specific characteristics. the NT1s being hyped high end. which is useful for its price. its relaly not a bad mic for using for room recording. it works, but its not a vocal contender for me. one way to take away the brightness? a tube pre cuts high frequencies thats why it sounds "warm" or "round" as people like to say. but it just actually doesnt extend out to 20kHz flat like people think everything has to. which isnt true.

Ray, you deserve a better mic. Is your birthday or something like that coming up? Tell your wife I said to get you a present. Budget: $400-$500.
